Adult Programs

You’ll love working out in water! Our skilled and caring coaches offer a variety of programs that cater to all ability levels.

Private and Semi-private Lessons

Enjoy private lessons at the Club year-round. It’s one of the many ways we help you achieve your personal goals. Whether you’re training for a specific event or just want to become a better swimmer, we design lessons that are customized to your specific needs. Let us help you set realistic goals and guide you toward achievement.

Swimmers in private lessons tend to see a lot of improvement in a short period of time because of the one-on-one attention. However, if you have a friend at a similar ability level, semi-private lessons are a great alternative. Having a companion during your lesson can put you at ease and motivate you to learn new skills together.

All lessons are 25 minutes in length and may be scheduled throughout the year during regular Club hours. Individual lessons and six-lesson packages available.

To register, please contact the Aquatics Office at 415.616.8800 or e-mail aquatics@ggtsc.com. Please note that we teach lessons rain or shine. We also have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Swim Clinics

Our clinics help you learn new skills, improve your current skills, and meet other swimmers. Join us on Fridays, twice a month, as we cover topics ranging from butterfly and flip turns to stroke drills and water polo. For more information, visit our program calendar or Activity Information Center at the Club. You can also download the current newsletter.

Personal Aquatic Training

One-on-one training in the water is the perfect way to achieve your aquatic goals safely and efficiently. Have one of our coaches create customized workouts that push you to new limits or improve your strokes, turns, and speed. We know you’ll enjoy this personalized workout.

Like private swim lessons, these sessions can last anywhere from 30 - 60 minutes. While lessons focus mainly on stroke mechanics, personal aquatic training is a one-on-one workout that focuses on yardage and cardiovascular training.

Masters Swimming

Are you a triathlete looking for a place to train? A lap swimmer who needs a change? Or a former competitive swimmer in seek of a high-quality workout? Masters swimming could be the perfect solution!

Our coaches design unique, challenging workouts and offer support for your swimming goals in a low-pressure environment. Intermediate and fitness swimmers can expect a great cardiovascular workout combined with stroke work. Intermediate and advanced swimmers will enjoy workouts that typically range from 2,500 - 4,000 yards and combine all four competitive strokes.

Masters Schedule

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 6:30 - 7:30 am
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 12:30 -1:30 pm
Tuesday and Thursday 6:00 - 7:30 pm

You must be a Golden Gateway member to participate.

Sponsorship

If you compete in swim meets or USMS-sanctioned events, ask about our sponsorship program. All participants receive 2 swim caps and a T-shirt. And whenever you register for a meet under the Golden Gateway Tennis & Swim Club name, we’ll waive three months of masters swimming fees.

Masters "Lite"

Masters Lite workouts are light on yardage but heavy on technique. It’s an ideal program for beginning swimmers or lap swimmers who want a change of pace. You’ll develop and improve your stroke technique with workouts that range from 1,000 - 2,000 yards. And like our masters swim program, our coaches create unique workouts and offer support for your swimming goals in a low-pressure environment.

Masters Lite is offered every Wednesday evening from 5:45 - 7:15 pm.

Water Fitness Classes

Enjoy a fun cardiovascular and strength-training workout in the comfort of the pool. The non-impact exercises are great for those with joint discomfort, such as knee or low-back problems. It’s also a refreshing cross-training challenge that’s guaranteed to get your heart rate up and burn calories. Classes are free of charge. Check the adult class schedule for meeting times.

Triathlon and Open Water Training

At Golden Gateway you have the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced open water swimmers in the country. So whether you’ve completed the Ironman triathlon or you aspire to doing your first "sprint-length” triathlon, our instructors are uniquely qualified to help you train. We can help you prepare for any distance and give you pointers on critical skills like sighting, navigating, gear, and how to swim in currents. For more information, please contact the Aquatics Department and ask for an open water training specialist.

Complimentary Swim Assessment

We invite all new adult members to take advantage of a 30-minute individual swim assessment. One of our professional trainers will evaluate your skills, suggest ways to improve, and recommend programs and clinics that are appropriate for you. All levels are welcome.

For more information on any of our aquatic programs, please contact our Aquatics director at 415.616.8800 or aquatics@ggtsc.com.
