Philanthropy
One of Golden Gateway’s core values is to actively participate in improving the quality of life in our community. Our members and staff demonstrate this value through regular volunteerism, fundraising, and hosting charity events at the Club.
In 2007 we contributed over $90,000 to various charitable organizations. This includes donated memberships, services, and equipment, in addition to money raised by our members and staff.
Like our parent organization, Western Athletic Clubs, we believe that philanthropy isn’t just something for large corporations or the super wealthy. Individuals and companies of all shapes and sizes must play a more active role in their communities to create truly vibrant neighborhoods and healthy, active community members.
Golden Gateway proudly supports several charitable organizations, including:
- Making Strides Against Breast Cancer -- In 2006 Western Athletic Clubs donated over $638,000 to the American Cancer Society. This was the largest donation made by any Bay Area company.
- IMPACT (Integrating Medical Professionals and Certified Trainers) -- Our personal fitness trainers work with oncologists and other medical care providers to develop exercise programs that improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
- Sports4Kids -- Sports4Kids is a physical education program for Buena Vista Elementary School in San Francisco. Subsidized by Golden Gateway and Western Athletic Clubs for several years now, this incredibly valuable program ensures that a licensed physical education teacher is on site for the majority of the school day.
